Motueka Sandspit – Saturday 27 July 2019
We started at 8:00am from Richmond and drove to the Saltwater Baths at Motueka. Ten people were on this trip. Once again we had very pleasant weather with light winds and patches of sun. Morning tea was ten minutes early at the usual place ¾ of the way out to the end where we nestled down looking out to sea, sheltered from the light southerly breeze with a chilly nip to it. Although the bird life was limited we had easy walking and we noted the changes in the sandspit since our last trip, probably a result of the huge amount of sediment coming from the Riuwaka River with the storm over a year ago. Although Rob could not find a mussel buoy he did bring back a couple of posts just for the exercise. Thanks to Doug for shouldering the load of one of the posts for part of the trip. We enjoyed refreshments at Toad Hall at 1:30pm with David W who joined us.
The group included Pat, Julian, Marian, Alison, Maria, Rob (scribe), Chris, Jo Sue J and newcomer Doug.
