A pleasant easy tramp
Apple Tree Bay – Sunday 6 December 2020
A small band of pre-Christmas trampers enjoyed a very pleasant easy tramp in fine conditions. It’s always pleasant crossing the Sandy Bay board walk on a fine summer morning. The tide was out and the views inland were stunningly clear. We took in the sights at Stu’s Lookout than had a long morning tea at the Tinline Campsite.
We took our time on the benched coastal track that winds around Coquille Bay to Guilbert Point then winds its way along to Apple Tree Bay. It was sunny but a bit windy on the beach and not as crowded as in other years. We made our way to a shady pine tree and found a sheltered spot for our lunch. A few braved the wind and had a very refreshing swim in a choppy sea.
The return walk was very pleasant as the tide was incoming and the vistas change so dramatically at high tide.
We did notice that the track users were a bit different. Many more Kiwis but still a few from faraway lands, who were out and about taking advantage of all this beautiful park has to offer. We had an excellent day, which was especially enjoyed by those who appreciated an easy day.
