A tour of tracks
Rotoiti walks – Saturday 9 March 2019
We parked up at the DOC centre, put on our boots and away we went to begin the Peninsula Nature Walk. Just before West Bay we peeled off and headed up towards Rotoiti Lodge. The Black Hill Track beckoned us. We perched on mossy rocks for a snack stop and then descended, following the tracks towards the Moraine Walk. The Buller River was low, so expanses of didimo were drying on the rocks. We noted some lovely deep, clear holes on our way down the Anglers Walk. Once attended the Highway we slipped over into Teetotal Flat to follow the bike track to the ice-skating ponds. From here we discovered a track heading back to the village along the foot of Big Bush and coming out past Clinker Café. Next stop was at the chapel where we admired the view through the window. By now fine drizzle was keeping us hydrated. It seemed a good idea to duck into the bush, so we did the Loop Walk at Kerr Bay. It was good to hear and see a kaka. By mid-afternoon we had completed our walks and were content to browse in the DOC centre.
Those on this trip were Maria, Rob, Robyn and Lesley G.
