Wakaretu Bay, Marlborough Sounds
Friday 16 - Saturday 17 July 2022
We went to Wakaretu in two waves - first on Friday in the rain, then the second early Saturday morning.
After an early morning tea on Saturday we set out from Jeff’s bach to climb to the Vodafone tower NE of the bach. Once the mist cleared the day and it warmed up, we had a good day with views over the sounds and by lunch views of the Kaikoura mountains.
Returning to the bach Maria took the ladies on a one hour bush walk in the local area while the men did some chores at the bach. With the woodstove working well the shared dinner was prepared and we decided to do Mt Cawte the next day.
Sunday morning dawned fine, so a quick clean and pack up saw us on the road to Mt Cawte. We got to the top at 11:45 and decided to enjoy the views and have an early lunch. We were back to the cars before 2pm to end the trip and then we all returned home.
A very good social time with enough tramping without feeling too challenged.
The group included Liz, Val, Maria, Rob (scribe), Hillary, and Jeff.
