Hopeless Creek Junction – Nelson Lakes National Park
Saturday 24 September 2022
A group of ten left Coldwater Hut at 9.15am after a water-taxi ride up the lake from Kerr Bay.
The weather was perfect, contrary to what the Met Service might have said, and for most members it was a day of new vistas and country walked.
We lunched at our destination at Hopeless Creek with mounts Hopeless and Cupola rising above us.
The trip home was a reverse of the route from the swingbridge, and then the crossing of same on new ground down to the Lakehead Hut. We were back at Lakehead jetty by 4.15pm for our return water-taxi.
Four legs for the day: Coldwater Hut to the swingbridge, the swingbridge to Hopeless Creek, Hopeless Creek to the swingbridge, and the swingbridge to Lakehead hut - all taking around one and a half hours each.
In total we covered 20.5km for the day in just under six hours walking, and with two boat trips.
Trampers: Ian (leader and scribe), Sue, Liz, Donell, Jenny, Robyn, Lorna, Tony, Karen and Sharyn (visitor).
