Gordons Knob, Mt Richmond Forest Park2024 02 11 Gordons Knob

Sunday 11 February 2024

It was a clear sunny day when 13 keen trampers (nine club members and four guests) set off from Inwoods lookout heading for Gordons Knob. The skies were clear and there was very little wind so it was a perfect day and we were all anticipating great views from the top.

After the step ascent from the car park, and then some wandering through the bush, we came to the rocky scrambly part of the track. There was then some debate as to the best point to turn off the main track. We decided on the higher point, but decided we would return via the lower route. Neither is a marked track, and both are marked with some cairns. They are both easy to miss on the way up if you are not sure where you are going.

We arrived at the high point - 1685m - after three hours and enjoyed amazing views in all directions. We were able to have lunch on the very top as there was not much wind and it was not too hot; a perfect day for it.

After lunch nine of the group decided to wander over to the actual knob, which is about 1km away and slightly lower at 1592m.

After visiting the knob, and again enjoying the amazing views (and seeing some goats) we started heading down and met up with the other four who were coming down from the high point.

We made good time on the trip back down and everyone had an enjoyable day.

Those who came were: Liz (leader and scribe), Marian, Jenny, Robert, Janey, Sue, David, Lynley, Lynda, and guests Deborah, Hannah, Luke and Chantelle.
